Californians stunned by lightning as deaths reported

A woman and her two dogs were fatally struck by lightning in Pico Rivera when thunderstorms hit southern California on June 22, local media reported. ABC 7 has identified the woman as 52-year-old Antonia Mendoza. Fox 11 said its dogs were named Luna and Chubby. “There is a one-in-a-million chance of something like this and it has happened,” Sgt. Patrick Morey, L.A. County Sheriff’s Office, told the Los Angeles Times. The National Weather Service warned of “dangerous overland/water lightning.” This footage was posted by Giuseppe Love on Twitter. The uploader described it as showing lightning over Fontana.
