Satellite footage shows flashing lightning over California

Timelapse satellite footage shows flashes of lightning sweeping through California on the night of June 22-23, with local news reporting more than 50,000 lightning events in the state. Local media reported that a woman and her two dogs were struck by deadly lightning in Pico Rivera when thunderstorms hit. ABC 7 has identified the woman as 52-year-old Antonia Mendoza. “There is a one-in-a-million chance of something like this and it has happened,” Sgt. Patrick Morey, L.A. County Sheriff’s Office, told the Los Angeles Times. This video was captured by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s GOES West satellite. Credit: NOAA Satellites via Storyful
