Kevin Durant orders trade from Brooklyn Nets, rocks NBA scene

There is never a dull moment in the NBA outside of the season but this trade request is unprecedented in the history of the league.

Brooklyn was bombed.

Nets star Kevin Durant rocked the NBA scene by asking for a deal from a team he’s called home since 2019, according to reports.

The 15-year-old veteran’s management will work with Brooklyn in finding him a new team despite having four years left as the NBA MVP to extend the contract he signed last year.

It’s an unprecedented move by a player of Durant’s stature with plenty of time remaining in his deal, but early indications are that the net will not stand in his way.

It comes the same week that Durant teammate and close friend Keri Irving picked the final year of his contract with Brooklyn – a sign many saw the team as ready to restart after Boston swept the playoffs.

But regardless of the perceived commitment, the pair had to continue their career together now emerging with the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat as Durant’s favorite landing spot.

Durant’s decision has major implications for the future of the NBA for Australian players Ben Simmons and Patty Mills.

Simmons, who was traded to the Nets last season, can now be sent anywhere if the franchise decides he’s not in its long-term plans.

Mills has more control after refusing to pick the second year option on his Brooklyn contract and entering free agency. His return to the net now seems unlikely given his preference to play for a contender for the championship.
